The Fischer Protocol, proposed by conflict resolution expert Robert Fischer in 1981, suggests a dramatic way to prevent the reckless use of nuclear weapons. Fischer’s idea was to implant the nuclear launch codes in a small capsule next to the heart of a volunteer, who would follow the President everywhere, armed with a butcher’s knife. If the President ever wished to authorize a nuclear strike, he would first have to kill the volunteer with his own hands to unlock the codes. This stark measure was designed to force leaders to personally confront the human consequences of their decisions.

The play gained national attention in 2025 discourse when it was controversially banned from being performed at the Kenya National Drama and Film Festivals by the Ministry of Education, citing that it was "too political". The ban sparked a national conversation about freedom of expression, art in education, and the role of students in political discourse.
