At the heart of the ongoing clashes in Sudan are two men: Sudan’s military ruler and head of the army Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (widely known as Hemedti), the country’s deputy and head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. Until recently, the two men were allies who worked together to topple ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in 2019 and played a pivotal role in the military coup in 2021. Their ouster of Omar al-Bashir enjoyed wide civilian support. The fierce fighting has left hopes for a peaceful transition to civilian rule in tatters. Forces loyal to the two rival generals are vying for control, and as is so often the case, civilians have suffered the most.

Dytheism is a theological concept that refers to the belief in a deity or deities who are not wholly good or benevolent, and may even be considered malevolent or evil.

Significant examples of religions that exhibit a dystheistic perspective include the belief system of the Ancient Greeks, who worshipped gods that frequently engaged in conflicts among themselves and manipulated humans for their own entertainment. Another example is Hinduism, where one of the gods, Shiva, is directly associated with deliberate destruction directed at people.

"A sunset clause is a provision in a Bill that gives it an expiry date once it is passed into law. When a sunset clause takes effect, legislators must either amend, re-pass or terminate the bill. Sunset clauses can apply to portions or the entirety of a law. Ex. The US PATRIOT Act which still exists today has multiple provisions on surveillance that are reviewed every few years and amended based on evolving technology. In contrast, in 2004 Federal Assault Weapons Ban was terminated by its sunset provision."

Jean Valjean is a fugitive prisoner in late 18th-century France who is sent to jail for many years for stealing a loaf of bread and then has his sentence extended for his many escape attempts. After finally escaping from prison, he is saved by a priest and becomes a god-fearing man who dedicates himself to doing good. He adopts a fake identity and becomes a mayor and philanthropist who employs many poor people. Recently, he found out that an innocent man, whose only crime is that he looks similar to Valjean, is mistakenly believed to be Valjean himself and is about to be sent to prison for the rest of his life unless proven innocent.
